Alberta Health: Non-Group Benefits for Medications
A number of families are not covered by work health insurance benefits, so we asked a colleague for some information about other forms of benefits. This link takes you to an Alberta Health overview of Non-Group Benefits and links to premiums (including the income-tested premium subsidy program), and application forms:
http://www.health.alberta.ca/services/drugs-non-group.html.
A quick summary of out-of-pocket costs for Non-Group Subscribers:
- Monthly premium of $118 (subsidy available to bring this down to $82).
- $50 annual deductible.
- 30% co-pay on each prescription to a maximum of $25.
It is important to note that the list of products covered by Non-Group benefits is substantially smaller than employer or private drug benefits programs.
For example, some versions of Ritalin, Dexedrine, and Vyvanse are reimbursed products under Non-Group Benefits. However, Concerta, Adderal, Focalin, Methylin, Metadate, Quillivant, Daytrana and others are not reimbursed products under Non-Group benefits.
The searchable database to see which products are covered is available at https://idbl.ab.bluecross.ca/idbl/search.do.
