Research: Survey for CADDAC

If you are a person with ADHD, or a caregiver of a child with ADHD, who is being treated with medication for ADHD, the Centre for ADHD Awareness, Canada (CADDAC) needs to hear about your experiences through a brief survey. The survey is available at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/FKC8YFB and will be open to responses until April 15, 2015. It should not take more than 10 minutes to complete.

In addition, if you could forward this e-mail to anyone else that you think might be interested it would be most helpful. The greater the number of responses the more accurate the data will be.

A group of national and provincial organizations who work with, and represent individuals and families living with a wide range of mental health conditions responding to concerns raised by our clients, members and constituents/stakeholders, came together to gain better insight into their experiences with medications.

Some research evidence and anecdotal evidence from caregivers, patients and treating physicians has indicated that for some people there may be a decrease in the degree and length of symptom control and the increase in side effects when patients are switched from brand name to generic medication.

At this time, there is insufficient information to allow us to fully understand whether substitution by generic medication or the direct substitution process is an issue for individuals and families living with mental health conditions and illnesses.

We do not have a position on the efficacy of generic versus brand name medications; but rather wish to better understand direct experiences of people who rely on various medications as part of their mental health treatment.

After the survey results have been analyzed a paper will be written and shared. Without awareness and knowledge, patients, their caregivers and their prescribing physicians cannot make informed decisions about treatment options.
